NESPRESSO
SEPARATION

The collected Nespresso capsules are sent to the recycling centre of the recovery company Thévenaz-Leduc SA in Ecublens.  Here, an ultra-modern facility crushes the capsules. The coffee grounds are separated from the aluminium by means of a straining process. After being separated, the sorted aluminium is sent to a nearby aluminium smelter in a neighbouring country. Here the metal is melted down and the raw material for new aluminium products is obtained. Recycled aluminium suffers no loss of quality and can be used in the same way as “new aluminium”. The coffee grounds are then sent to a composting facility and converted into fertilizer.
