Not a day goes by that we don’t come into contact with aluminium in one form or another, or get some sort of reminder about aluminium as a raw material. Car manufacturers continually point out in their adverts that they use aluminium for their chassis or engines and that therefore the total weight is significantly reduced. Who doesn’t cast admiring glances now and then at some car’s wonderful alloy wheels – also guaranteed to be made out of aluminium. Or when doing the daily shopping: that wonderfully tasty meat loaf for home-cooking is packed in aluminium and ready to go. On the shelf next to it are cans of beer and a few metres away, a tube of mustard awaits.




All that remains is to pick up Blacky the cat’s daily rations, all packed nice and cleanly in an aluminium pet food container. In Swiss households, aluminium packaging is part and parcel of daily life: millions of aluminium beverage cans, sauce tubes and pet-food containers are sold every year. Thanks to the environmental good sense of hundreds of thousands of citizens, millions of these aluminium containers are also sent for practical, energy-saving recycling.
